Frequently Asked Questions
How do I sign up for a class?
Sign up is easy! Go to the Schedule page and follow the directions. You can sign up for one of our monthly membership plans, or purchase individual classes.
Alternatively, our friendly staff will be happy to help you sign up in our studio or over the phone.
Are all the Pilates classes on the machines? And what is the FitFormer?
Yes, all classes are held on our exclusive FitFormer. There are no mat classes. The machines give you full body resistance training, much like a weightlifting routine, but don’t bulk you up.
We created a customized reformer because, well, we didn’t like other reformers. Hey, we might be opinionated, but it’s more about wanting you to have the best Pilates experience. Our reformer is bigger, more comfortable, easier to use, and more versatile. Looks great, too.
How is Pilates Pro different from Pilates Classic?
Pilates Pro is our signature method, a combination of Pilates and resistance training. Pilates Pro utilizes the best of both: the strengthening and toning benefits of weight training, and the lengthening and postural enhancing benefits of Pilates.
Our workout moves quickly, keeping the heart rate up and burning extra calories. Pilates Classic is a more traditionally styled Pilates class, incorporating classic pilates exercises. Though still challenging, this class will be slower paced with less emphasis on music.
I have never done Pilates, should I take a private session first?
We recommend either taking one or more private sessions until you feel comfortable, or taking the Pilates Essentials class. Both are great ways to get a little extra attention and explanation. However, depending on your general fitness level and athleticism, your can most likely jump right into an All Levels class.
Most new students do just fine in their first class. If you have chronic back pain, painful joints or a severe medical condition, please make sure your doctor has given you the go-ahead before undertaking any new physical activity.
I’m not exactly athletic. Will I be able to do Pilates?
Pilates is the socialism of exercise: it’s for everyone, even if you can’t touch your toes, or can’t help your grandmother open a jar of pickles. See, Pilates was originally created as a form of rehabilitation.
So it’s a safe, go-at-your-own pace, for-every-type-of-body exercise method. No matter your age, no matter your level of athletic prowess, Pilates can improve your strength, flexibility, agility, and ability to move.
Pilates is just for chics, right?
Look. Pilates was created by Joseph Pilates who, last we checked, was a full-blooded male. He was a gymnast and a boxer. He was an Adonis well into his 80s
– all because of the method he created. That’s why more and more men are taking Pilates. And they’re not doing it just to meet chicks. Really.
How often should I practice the Pilates Pro Method?
You will find out what feels right for you, but we recommend 3 to 4 times a week or every other day... or try alternating days between Barre Pro and Pilates Pro!
Other than me, what should I bring to class?
We supply all the mats, weights, and props. All you need is your own towel to wipe up your sweat. As for refreshments, you’re welcome to bring coconut water, Yerba Mate tea or your favorite beverage du jour, or you
can buy one of our hip glass bottles and fill it using our filtered water dispenser. We're reducing our waste - so no more disposable bottles or cups!
What should I wear?
Follow one simple rule: go for comfort. Choose attire that allows you to breathe, bend and stretch. Smart choices include stretch pants, yoga
pants, leggings and tank tops. Fitted clothing is helpful so the teacher can assess your form.
Other stuff about attire:
- For Pilates and Barre classes, we recommend socks with the sticky nubs on the bottom.
- TRX requires sneakers.
- Leave jewelry at home or in your bag.
- Come as natural as possible, which means no strong perfumes or lotions. Some people are allergic and the oils can stain the equipment.
What's up with the shower situation?
We offer two spacious showers, plus all of the shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion your heart desires. So be nice and don’t steal our hairdryers or bath towels.
Is it cool to update my Facebook status during class?
Absolutely not. But we do have free w-fi, so you can immediately check-in, tag, and tell your 854 friends about your in-class epiphany.
